With its first artist presentation of the year, Emblazon Arts brings Felandus Thames to Baltimore, offering a point of entry into the Black experience in a space committed to building worlds where art and connection thrive. Through parables, cultural idioms, and physically resonant forms, Thames creates visual narratives that reflect the shared elements within Black life.

Elevated from their usual contexts, these hairbrushes challenge simple interpretation, highlighting the nuanced complexity of lived experiences and signaling the hidden influences that shape self-perception and worldviews. Here, materials serve more than formal devices; they function as vessels of memory, archives of personal histories, and quiet witnesses to everyday life. Focusing on the humanity of Black life, this presentation encourages reflection on how memory, material, and meaning intertwine in the stories we bear.

The Outpost is a modest structure designated as a multipurpose gathering space located on the property. As an extension of TLRAR’s social engagement activities, it reinforces our mission to highlight constructive ideas and creative practices led by today’s progressive cultural producers. The space welcomes exhibitions, lectures/presentations, performances, workshops, etc. by invitation only. Programs may be private and/or public depending on the occasion. You can learn about the schedule of upcoming programs through our newsletter, website and social media posts.
